Our Story

In August of 2001, God began a good work through 149 charter members as Crossway Baptist Church gathered for its first Sunday worship service at Riverdale High School.  Being led by Dr. Tony Long, CrossWay met at the high school for its first 4.5 years of existence.  These were exciting days as the church grew, impacted our community, and began to develop a clear identity and purpose as a church that desires to see the lost saved and the saved matured.

As a member of the Concord Baptist Association and Tennessee Baptist Mission Board, CrossWay merged with Rucker Baptist Church in 2002.  Shortly after that, the church obtained 20 acres of land on Hwy 231 and began construction of our current building in 2005.

From the very beginning, God has led us to be a mission-minded people.  The early years of CrossWay saw our church send multiple teams to Romania and then to Mississippi for Hurricane Katrina relief. More recently, we have developed partnerships locally with the Department of Children’s Services and Stepping Stones and globally with churches in the Dominican Republic.  Since 2015 we have partnered with an organization called ReVision to send multiple teams each year to the Dominican Republic to build relationships, train church leadership, participate in construction projects, and share the love of Jesus with those who do not know Him.  Over the course time, we have been blessed that God has consistently used the CrossWay Family to influence, encourage, and change lives.

One of our hardest seasons as a church occurred just a few years ago as Pastor Long was diagnosed with Ataxia.  The transition of leadership that followed as a result of his illness was not easy but it was a time that both challenged and strengthened our church.  It was also a time that God used to bring clarity to our church’s mission and direction for the next season of our church’s life.

In 2012, during this time of transition, the church called Sherman Boyd to be out new Lead Pastor.  Pastor Sherman first came to CrossWay in 2005 when he was hired as the Minister to Children and Students.   Over the last few years under Pastor Sherman’s leadership, God has continued to grow and bless CrossWay as we have focused on Developing Community, Engaging in Mission, Discipling the Next Generation, and becoming a Church of Prayer.

We are not a perfect church, but we look forward with great excitement and anticipation to see what God has in store for us in the next chapter of our church’s life.  We hope that God will lead you to be a part of our story!
