FAmily Commissioning

What is a Family Commissioning?

In many churches, as well as at CrossWay, there has been a long tradition of having Baby Dedication Services.  These are good and definitely serve a purpose as a family comes together with their Church Family to commit their children to the Lord's will.  At CrossWay, we see great value in this practice, but we also want to highlight a few values that we think a Family Commissioning Service helps to clearly communicate.

First, we want to begin a partnership with parents. We believe it is the church's responsibility to equip and encourage parents in their role as Spiritual Leaders in their home.  We want our parents to know that the church is there for them and we want to help provide them with the resources necessary to raise godly children.

Second, we believe that the home is the first mission field. The greatest impact parents will have on the Kingdom is with those who live in their homes.  The ministry work accomplished in the home is of great importance and we want parents to embrace the call God has given them as missionaries in their own homes.

Finally, we want parents to understand the importance of first dedicating themselves to the Lord's Purposes.  There is nothing wrong with a Child or Baby Dedication, but we believe true transformation will occur in our homes and our children's lives when they see parents fully dedicated to the Lord's Will.  In addition, we want our families to know that their church family is joining along with them in this calling.

Based on these Values, during our Family Commissioning Services we do the following:

  • Commission Parents as Missionaries in their Homes.
  • Covenant as a Church Body to Partner with Parents in their Calling.
  • Commit to "Stand in the Gap" with Single Mothers.

Because of the items above, we are requiring all parents who participate to complete an Online Parent Training Course. This training should take no more than an hour or so to complete, but does not need to be completed in one sitting.   So, whether you are parents of a newborn or a High School Senior, we hope you will prayerfully consider being a part of this special service.

Click here to let us know you would like to participate in our Family Commissioning Service on 6/16/19 during our morning worship gathering and to access the Online Training Course.

Registration deadline is June 9.
